On a test track separated from other traffic, testing can be done without external interference, be it noise, speed or brakes that are tested.

The test tracks at the Vihti location provide an opportunity for testing to meet the needs of product development and acceptance testing required by the authorities. The tracks enable diverse testing either on asphalt or on the adjacent vibration tracks.

Track area

  • A track paved with asphalt with a length of 900 metres and loops at both ends, allowing non-stop driving on the track. There is a 200-metre level area at the middle of the track
  • ISO 5008 smooth and rough tracks for measuring the whole body vibration to which the driver is subjected and the stresses and vibrations to which the vehicle is subjected.

On these tracks, VTT Expert Services performs various kinds of tests on mobile work machines. During the type approval of a tractor, its maximum speed, brakes, steering, and noise are tested to the driver and to the outside. Furthermore, pulling power and fuel consumption measurements are done on tractors and wheeled loaders commissioned by trade magazines, for example.

Vibration test tracks support product development

The vibration test tracks in the test area offer a testing location when, for example, developing the cabin suspension, seeking the seat best suited to the cabin, investigating the effect of different tyres and tyre pressures on vibrations transferred to the cabin, etc.

For example, a van comparison test performed on the vibration test track highlighted the differences in the suspensions of the vehicles. According to the test drivers, the track correlates well with the feeling of driving on a rough gravel road.

The tracks are located in Vihti, in the vicinity of the facilities of VTT Expert Services, and they can also be rented for companies' private use.
