Tractor type approval examination
REGULATION (EU) No 167/2013 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL
In practice, all tractors type-approved in the EU must be approved at the beginning of 2018 in accordance with Regulation 167/2013. Type approval gives the tractor a license throughout the EU.
In Finland, Eurofins Expert Services (Vakola office) conducts type approval checks on tractors. Based on the results of the inspection, the Traficom grants type approval.
Approval under the old tractor directive could only be granted to a tractor with a maximum speed of 40 km/h. The new regulation will add more speed classes to tractors. The tractors will be divided into three different speed classes: maximum 40 km/h, 40-60 km/h and over 60 km/h.
The type-approval examination shall include an examination of the following technical regulations
- Regulation 1322/2014 (Structural Safety)
- Regulation 2015/208 (Functional Safety)
- Regulation 2015/68 (brakes)
- Regulation 2018/985 (noise and emissions)
Trailers and towed machines can also be type-approved
With the new regulation, tractor trailers (category R) and towed vehicles (category S) will be subject to type approval. For these machine groups, type approval is optional.
