IP Testing

Your industry, our focus

Tightness requirements can be set for enclosures of electrical and electronic products, such as those in standards EN 60529 (IP class), UL or NEMA 250, due to the electrical safety requirements of the operating conditions or other environmental conditions.

Electronics that are installed in demanding conditions are manufactured to endure such conditions or protected from those conditions. Temperature, rain, wind, freezing, dust, environmental pollutants and other such factors need to be taken into account when installing devices outdoors. This is often done by protecting such electronics with an enclosure or by preventing harmful substances from entering.

The conditions in indoor environments may also set demands with regard to fine particles, for example. Demanding conditions usually refer to operating environments that are difficult due to temperature and humidity, corrosion, vibration or electromagnetic conditions, while extreme conditions require the electronics to be isolated from the operating environment.

Expert services

We can help companies at the early design stage of a product. Together with the client, we will determine what requirements need to be set for the tightness of the product's enclosure, and what they mean in terms of casing design, the necessary bushings and the seals of the covers and doors.

The first tightness tests of a new product should be performed at the earliest possible stage of the product development so that achieving the planned ingress protection class can be ensured.

Tightness testing

The protection class (IP class) of the enclosure is verified with water and dust tests and the protection against solid foreign objects is verified with access probe tests. The water protection properties can also be tested according to NEMA or UL requirements.
