Soil, till and sediment samples are suitable for both geochemical exploration and environmental monitoring of mining purposes. The sieved fine fraction (below 0.06mm) of till samples is the most suitable portion for exploration but depending on site and project other fractions or entire soil sample (e.g. weathered rock) can be used.

Processing and analyses of Soil and Sediment samples

• Drying, sieving, pulverizing or other sampling method regarding purpose
• Low drying temperature for samples containing elements that are easily evaporated
• Possibility to freeze-dry bioindicators and samples containing lot pf clay minerals or high organic matter
• Use of nylon sieves to prevent metal contamination

• Wide selection of extraction methods depending on need and purpose
  • Weak extractions and selective extractions
  • Leaching using mineral acids (aqua regia and nitric acid, EPA3051)
  • Multi-acid digestion (4 acid digestion)
  • Fluxing (Sodium peroxide fusion)
