Physical testing of pulp and paper

When determining the paper-making potential, characterization of pulp by refining can give some essential information. We can perform pulp refining with Voith-Sulzer and PFI. We can variate Voith Sulzer refining by different refining blades and different refining parameters. Refined pulps are analyzed for wet pulp properties (e.g. SR, CSF, WRV, fiber dimensions). We can make laboratory sheets and analyze them. The results are interpolated to the desired refining levels.

In addition to kraft pulps, we also test mechanical pulps and pulps taken at different stages of processes.

If necessary, we can begin our analysis from wood chips and pulp bleaching through our network.

From laboratory sheets and paper and board, we can measure the optical properties of the pulp (e.g., ISO brightness, colors, opacity), structural properties (air permeability, smoothness, z-direction ash distribution), strengths (e.g., tensile strength, tear strength, Z strength) and printing properties ( e.g., surface strength, gloss, density, color requirement).

We perform microscopic examination of pulps and papers as well as wood species counting from Nordic wood species.

The chemical properties of pulp and paper can also be determined.
