CE Marking of Building Products

Sidebar Image

CE marking became mandatory for construction products on 1 July 2013. The manufacturer is primarily responsible for CE marking. An importer or distributor is also entitled to assume responsibility for CE marking for a construction product, for example, when the product is launched with importers or distributors own name or brand.

Certifications and product approvals issued by Eurofins Expert Services (previously known as VTT Expert Services) are listed at www.sertifikaattihaku.fi/en. Link to CE marking of Building Products at Sertifikaattihaku.fi/en.

CE marking is based on a standard or ETA

CE-marking for construction products is based on the harmonized European standard (hEn) or European Technical Assessment (ETA). ETA can be admitted only by assigned Technical Assessment Body (TAB), which is a member of EOTA.

CE marking process

Eurofins Expert Services Ltd is a Notified Body for construction products. We make sure that the product's conformity has been assessed and confirmed using an appropriate procedure.

  • Type testing: Testing of building materials, building services and products
  • Early checks and continuous quality control of a factory
  • Certification of conformity of factory production control
  • Certificate of constancy of performance
  • European Technical Assessment ETA

What is CE marking?

CE marking shows that the product's basic characteristics conform to the relevant harmonized European standard (hEn) or voluntary European Technical Assessment, ETA. It also shows that the manufacturer has conducted and commissioned the necessary testing, inspection, quality control and certification measures according to standard or European Assessment Document EAD (according to ETA acceptation directions).

CE marking enables free trading of construction products within the European Economic Area. By the construction product decree assigned on July 1st, 2013, CE marking became compulsory in all of the member countries in cases where the product has a harmonized product standard available.
